The voltage regulator on this tiny module produces a fixed 5V output from as little as 3V and as high as 30V. It uses DC to DC switching regulator technology to operate at a typical efficiency of 80-90% with 4% accuracy.
The ability to boost lower voltages makes this an ideal power regulator for battery operated projects such as mobile robots. Because it is able to step the voltage both up and down, this regulator is ideal for use with batteries that start out higher than needed but discharge below the required levels. In addition, your robot's brain will not suffer from the momentary power drain that often results from motor and servo startup. It always helps to have a clean and robust power supply to deliver the voltage to your robot.
This efficient switching power regulator has a number of safety features such as reverse voltage and over current protection and thermal shutdown.
Connect the source power to the voltage in (VIN) and ground (GND) pins. Access the regulated 5V output power by connecting to the voltage out (VOUT) and corresponding common ground (GND) pins. An optional enable (ENABLE) pin can driven low (under 0.7V) to put the board into a low power sleep state. We recommend leaving the ENABLE pin disconnected.
